The Magic Finger
Author: Roald Dahl
Genre: Fantasy
The magic finger is a book about a little girl who has a magical power. The farm next to her house is owned by The Greggs and the Greggs have two children. The little girl often goes over to their farm to play with Phillip and William ( the two Gregg's family kids ). But there is one thing that the girl doesn’t like about the Gregg family is that the dad and the two boys go hunting every Saturday morning. She doesn’t get the point of going hunting because all you do is kill innocent birds and animals for fun. The girl tries her best to talk the two boys out of hunting but it’s no use. They would just laugh at her and walk away. One day the girl tried to talk to Mr. Gregg but he just walked past as if there was nothing there. Then one Saturday morning the girl saw the Gregg’s coming back from their hunting session and she got cross. She started yelling and screaming at them but as usual, they would just walk past laughing and they even made faces, now that made the girl even more cross. Now because the girl was cross, it made her magical power strike. First, she saw red, second she got really hot all over, third the tip of her forefinger on her right hand started tingling and finally a little flash almost like something electric shoots out of her finger and lands on the person or people that have made her cross. Everything was fine until Mr. Gregg woke up the next morning. As he tried to lift his arm to see what the time was, he wasn’t able to so he tried lifting his other arm and that wouldn’t move either. He jumped out of bed just to realize that he had turned into a bird. He screamed and woke his wife who had turned into a bird as well. This was all because of the magic finger.
There was nothing that I disliked about this book.
I rate this book a 6/10 because it was interesting to read but it wasn’t something that hooked me in straight away. Books that hook me in are usually about murder mystery or crime scene investigation's :)
