Image result for red book cover libby gleesonThis book is about a girl called Red. She was lying on the sand, covered in mud. Mud in her mouth, mud in her nose, mud in her eyes. Mud caked onto her neck and arms. She was lying there, still, frozen. Thankfully a guy named Peri saw her lying there and went to her rescue. He asked her what her name was. No response was given. He asked again. All she said was ' jaymartinjaymartin'. Peri asked her for the third time what her name was, he got the same reply, jaymartinjaymartin. Peri slapped her across the face and told her to speak proper English. She slowly and steadily sat up. She coughed, spat out clumps of mud and coughed again. Peri asked who she was and who her family was. She didn't reply. Peri then helped her stand up and took her to his so-called 'palace'. Once they reached there, Peri helped her sit down on a sandstone while he went and fetched some food for her. Peri came back with some fruit and a sandwich. She nervously extended her hands and took the food. Once she was finished, Peri asked her who her family was. She didn't reply. Instead, she asked where she was and how she got here. She was very confused. A few moments of silence later, Peri told her that a hurricane had passed over their city and he found her on the sand so he helped her here under this temporary shelter. Peri asked her what he could call her because she didn't know her own name. She said that he could call her Red. Red asked Peri if she could go to the rescue center to see if she could find her family but Peri said no. Peri said that if they go to the rescue center they will just be kept there and they won't be allowed to come back. Red asked again and this time, Peri said yes. They walked together to the rescue center and split up once they reach there to find her parents.

My questions so far:

Will Red find her parents?
Will she ever be able to find out about her past?

I rate this book an 8/10

I liked how this book was set after a hurricane hit whatever city they were in. It was really interesting just reading about how Red and Peri set out on an adventure to find Red's parents.

There was nothing I disliked.
