Silvermist And The Ladybug Curse

Silvermist And The Ladybug Curse

Author: Gail Herman
Genre: Disney
Book Review #16

Silvermist was a water talent fairy. She lived with her other fairy friends in Pixie Hollow. There were lots of fairies in Pixie Hollow and they all had different talents. For example, there were: garden talent fairies, baking talent fairies, light-talent fairies and much much more.

It was a wonderful day in Pixie Hollow so Silvermist and her friends decided to go out on a picnic. To get to the perfect picnic spot the fairies had to paddle down the Havendish stream to an island not very far from Pixie Hollow. The baking talent fairies made cakes and berry juice for their picnic and sorted them out into picnic baskets. All of the other fairies left before Silvermist so that they could get there first but Silvermist wasn't bothered by this. She wanted to take it slow and admire the gorgeous day they were having.

Silvermist reached about halfway when a fast talent fairy named Vidia jumped onto the front of her canoe. Vidia told Silvermist that she was moving at the pace of a snail but once again, Silvermist wasn't bothered by that one single bit. She told Vidia that she wanted to enjoy the wonderful day and just take it easy. Vidia rolled her eyes and laughed at her when she suddenly fell into the freezing cold water. Silvermist immediately went to her rescue when she realised that the water was only up to her waist and she wouldn't drown. Vidia was even more annoyed than she already was and went and sat down on the bank.

Once Silvermist arrived at the island, the fairies started their picnic without a seconds delay. After all of the fairies had finished their picnic, one of the animal talent fairies suggested that they played a game called 'spots and dots'. There was a roar of excitement across the island and everybody jumped up on the feet. The game works like this: all of the fairies close their eyes and count to ten while their ladybug friends hide. Once the fairies have finished counting, they have to look around for the ladybugs and when they find one, their job is to count the dots on the ladybug and tally them up as they go. The fairy with the most marks at the end of the game wins.

All of the fairies set off to play the game when Silvermist feels a ladybug settle down on her head. Silvermist screams in surprise and in a few seconds, all of the fairies are crowded around her. There was a few moments of silence when one of the fairies screamed. " Um, Silvermist, there is a white ladybug on you and I have heard that they are bad luck, you might be cursed". "Oh, nonsense" Silvermist replied. Silvermist didn't believe in superstition, so she wasn't worried. A few days later, things start to go wrong in Silvermists life but she still doesn't think it is because of the so-called white ladybug curse.

My Questions So Far:

Is Silvermist really cursed?
If she is cursed, will she be able to undo it?

I rate this book a 5/10

I liked how there were some twists and turns in this book to keep it interesting.

I disliked how Vidia was mean to the other fairies.
