If you have seen the movie hunt for the wilder people this book will be very familiar because the movie is based on the book. Barry crump was New Zealand's most popular authors. He has sold more than 1 million copies of his books.

Rickey is a juvey kid, and he is part of the social welfare group and paula put ricky in the care of bella and hec flee and on the first night rickey ran away and got as far as 200 meters. Rickey had his birthday a phew days after and he got a dog because that's what he wanted. A phew weeks later bella died and hec couldn't look after rickey because hec had a record and need a women influence. So paula and oscar had come to pick up ricky but, ricky had gone out to the bush and then hec came and then it turned into a 6 month manhunt for rickey and hec. Along the way they met lots of people and in the end they gave up and hec went to a rebolation fiscility, and ricky went into th care of bryn and his daughter.
