In Te Kainga, home to the Kaitipua, their chief Parekoi has sent out seeking for the Mauri Stone to bring back health to the barren lands to where they live. The Mauri stone would bring back growth to their crops and animals to hunt; but to get it back Parekoi is going to have to go to the Parehe. The guardians of nature.
Near the mountain Matawehi by the sacred pools, Taramea, the chief of the Parehe, enemy of the Kaitipua, waits for Parekoi’s arrival. Blue Skin all over, as well as muscular. However Taramea, the chief of the Parehe, and keeper of the Mauri Stone, has an offer. Parekoi’s firstborn, for the Mauri Stone. So the deal is struck, and the firstborn would marry Taramea’s soon to be born daughter as is written in the stars.
Within the next couple of months, twins are born. Kahu and Mira. The two grow to be mischief, and strong like their father. Until one day, after four months of harvesting, Taramea is reminded of the deal that had struck. But instead of Kahu as the deal was foretold, Parekoi sacrifices himself. Now Kahu and Mira train to fight against the Parehe to rescue their father.
